New Study Shows Teens Are Using E-Cigarettes To Get High

A recent study conducted at Yale University indicates that parents who want to keep their teenagers from using marijuana need to keep an eye out for more than just joints around the house. According to researchers, many teens are now using a vaporizer pen to get high.

What the Study Shows

The Yale University study surveyed 4,000 students who attend schools in Connecticut, and was published in the medical journal, Pediatrics, in early September. The survey asked teenagers questions regarding the use of ecigs and marijuana. Roughly 28 percent of all of the students who completed the survey had previously used electronic cigarettes. The study also found that about one-fourth of all students who had used an e-cigarette and marijuana in the past had used a vaporizer to get high.

Critics of the Study

Not everyone is embracing the findings of the Yale study. Many critics argue that the study is not an accurate picture of all teenagers because it involved a limited number of students located in just one state. These individuals feel that it is unfair to categorize vapor pen use among teens in the entire country, based on the actions of just 4,000 students in Connecticut. Others point out the fact that the study actually reveals that more students who have used electronic cigarettes and marijuana did not use a topherbal vaporizer or best wax pen to get high, so the study isn’t really proving that vape pens are encouraging drug use.

What Is a Vaporizer Pen?

A vaporizer pen or electronic cigarette is a device that is used to produce concentrated vapor from some type of material. Also known as a vape pen or vapor pen, a vaporizer pen can be used to vaporize marijuana in dry herbal form, as well as in liquid concentrate forms, which look very similar to e-juice used in electronic cigarettes. This can make it difficult to tell just what a person is vaping. Unlike marijuana cigarettes or joints, a marijuana vaporizer see VaporPlants pen does not give off any type of detectable odor, and the vapor tends to clear quickly without any heavy clouds being left behind. This can make it very difficult for parents to know that their teenagers are using marijuana, even if they’re at home and in the next room.

What Parents Can Do

Because a marijuana vaporizer pen can make it even more difficult to detect if a teenager is using cannabis, it’s more important than ever that parents talk to their teens about their expectations regarding abstaining from drug use. An open dialogue and honest communication is proven to have a positive effect on teens who may be at risk for using drugs. Parents are also encouraged to familiarize themselves with what vape pens and marijuana concentrated wax looks like.
